MY MOTHER
My mother, Merle Eve Whittington, was a great woman who was born before her time. She dreamt of becoming great business person just like her dad, who passed on his business knowledge and survival skills to her. My mom had hearing problems. In the early days of the 1900s, hearing impaired people had a hard time. But Mother stood the test.
Mother was often ill and stayed home, helping the family earn money by washing and ironing. She made rag dolls from leftover fabric and sold them in the neighborhood. My father was a factory worker. Despite physical challenges, they both worked hard, set an example for us and overcame the odds.
Both my parents won my respect as a son. They are the reason I write, sing, draw, dance and tell stories, remembering what my parents shared with me Ð entrepreneurship through creativity. Go for it!
