Guilford County was formed in 1771, from the southern parts of Orange County and Rowan County. Today, if you were to measure 9-miles west from the Guilford-Alamance County line you would locate the 1752 Orange-Rowan line. Thus, 9-miles of the eastern part of Guilford County, originally was in Orange. Then in 1779, the bottom of Guilford County was separated forming Randolph Co. Then in 1785, the northern part of Guilford is also removed Ð creating Rockingham Co.
Miscellaneous land records are a Òcatch allÓ of land disputes, agreements, surveys, etc. This two-box collection is actually placed in alphabetical order and not date order. Therefore, Box 1 is ÒA-LÓ and Box 2 ÒM-ZÓ both boxes span the years of 1784 to 1959.
Guilford County also has 4-box collection of Ejectments (land disputes) of which only the oldest box is currently planned to be transcribed.
