Young children do not have the hand strength, fine motor skillsÑor even the inclinationÑto form standard chords on the guitar or ukulele. But they do have the joy and enthusiasm to play and have fun with music.
This book shows how children ages 6,7,8 can easily form the major chords on a small guitar and/or ukulele by tuning the instruments to "open tunings." The young student simply strums to get the main chord and presses the strings at the fifth or seventh fret to get the other two chords that may be needed. Simple. Doable. Fun.
This easy, innovative method was created by Kentucky artist in residence David Musser. Students have performed at school functions, civic events, churches, colleges, Bluegrass festivals, television shows, family gatherings, nursing homes, senior citizen centers, and parades.
