With just under 1,000 population, the City of Hankinson tackled a major construction project to not only build a new community center but also to save three 100-year-old deteriorating downtown buildings. The end result is a beautiful and unique 10,000-square-foot community center. The $1.7 million project was financed in large part by cash donations. Project costs were held to a minimum by utilizing very talented and skilled volunteers who donated thousands of hours to help design and build the facility. The Hankinson Community Center is a testament to the long-standing can-do attitude of this southeast North Dakota community. The book features an historical background of the project, hundreds of color photos and details of the dedication ceremony held June 29, 2012.
