A survey of the health of Havanese dogs in 2004 by the Havanese Club of America.
This survey gives a snapshot of the Havanese breed in 2004 from height and weight to the health of systems such as eyes, heart and reproduction, to personality, style, and diet. Havanese breeders contributed information from their records and health tests of 756 dogs.
The information captured here can help breeders and researchers focus on addressing the problems that affect the most dogs, and it can help prevent the less common problems from becoming more widespread by promoting education and advocating testing standards.
Knowledge aids prevention, and prevention is a key to health and longevity. With this key, Havanese can move confidently into the future and into our hearts with their immense charm and playful personalities.
This health survey will provide a solid foundation for subsequent surveys documenting the health and personalities of Havanese as they grow older and new puppies join families.
