DeWitt, Iowa's historic Oak Ridge Cemetery is the final resting place for many early pioneers of Clinton County. It was abandoned in the late 19th century and nearly forgotten until a reclamation project, spearheaded by Sarah Jordan Schlotfeldt during the 1930s rescued and reset scattered tombstones in hopes of creating a memorial park. The Cemetery was lost a second time when it was annexed into St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. No sign marks this historic cemetery, but the ancient tombstones in the northwest corner of the cemetery is clear evidence of its existence. This book is an attempt to identify and commemorate the first citizens of DeWitt.
