Mar Audisho Bar Brikha, in his catalog of authors, credits Mar Narsai, the famous poet-theologian of the Assyrian Church of the East, with having composed 360 metrical homilies (Memre) among his other writings. Unfortunately only about a quarter of these survive. Forty-seven were edited and published by Alphonse Mingana when he was still a Chaldean priest in Mosul in 1905. In 1970, Patriarch Mar Eshai Shimun published a facsimile of a manuscript that originated in Telkepe that contained eighty-eight homilies in two volumes. Because of the size of the volumes, they have been split into two parts each. Volume I Ð Part 1 contains the fifty-two page English introduction written by Mar Eshai Shimun and pages 1-364 of the Syriac text.
