The story is based on the real experiences of young husky puppies who live in northern New Jersey. In a small town, Hibernia, there is an entrance into a wildlife refuge called Wild Cat Ridge. The vast area is lined with many hiking trails. Here an old mine shaft lays hidden within trees, the bat cave. A rare species of bat hibernates here in the winter. The cave is blocked off to people. In the summer, the cave breathes out cool air; and on humid days, fog steams out of the opening into the forest hollow.
