Ibis the Invincible debuted in Whiz Comics #2, published by Fawcett Publications, in February
of 1940. He would be a regular back up character in that title for over a hundred issues. Ibis
also had his own title IBIS THE INVINCIBLE which lasted a total of six issues and was published
sporadically between 1943 and June of 1948. IBIS THE INVINCIBLE VOLUME ONE collects all six
of those issues advertisement free.
Ibis was originally Prince Amentep in ancient Egypt. Ibis was given the incredibly powerful magic
Ibistick to wield wisely during his rule. Circumstances forced Ibis and the Ibistick, along with his
partner Princess Taia to spend 4,000 years in suspended animation. Upon awaking in two
separate museums, Ibis and Taia (of course) decide to dedicate their lives to fighting crime and
save lives.
Ibis was created by Bob Kingett. The stories in IBIS THE INVINCIBLE VOLUME ONE were written
by Otto Binder and Bill Woolfolk along with others. Some of the amazing artists in this volume
are Mac Raboy, Pete Costanza, Dave Berg, Alex Blum, Bob Hebberd, Gus Ricca, Kurt
Schaffenberger and Basil Wolverton.
IBIS THE INVINCIBLE VOLUME ONE is over 280 pages of Golden Age magic!
