Despite its small size, Fulton, Ky. (and its twin city, South Fulton, Tenn.) played an important role in moving trains on the Illinois Central Railroad. The twin cities are virtually at the midpoint of ICÕs ChicagoÐNew Orleans mainline. Considerable traffic headed to/from Louisville, Ky., and Birmingham, Ala., also passed through town.

This 46 page black-and-white pictorial explores some of the Illinois CentralÕs train activities and facilities in Fulton from the 1890Õs to 1970Õs. Most of the photographs presented here have never been published before.

Inside are photos of ICÕs passenger and freight trains during both the steam and diesel era, plus the roundhouse and coaling towers. Additionally, there are photos of ICÕs banana trains, the Fulton ice house, and the 1964 International Banana Festival.
