An architectural concept is made tangible to its users through the surfaces they experience and the way that materials are composed to form spaces. Details, the very essence of the architectural composition, tell the story of a building. At the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture many inspirations for teaching and research are still drawn today from the schoolÕs founderÕs vast oeuvre. From the mitered glass corner to the conscious use of flooring materials, Wright has employed a concise vocabulary of connecting elements to bring the exterior into the house and vice versa. The class Inside:Outside 1:1 looked at this vocabulary and took aspects of it into contemporary architecture. Students designed one important detail from their larger design projects that connects inside and outside. This detail design was taken all the way into a physical 1:1 model, using real materials.
