This is a memoir of the author's experiences in Iraq during the war years, in China during the student revolt, South Africa at the end of apartheid, and Haiti after the quake of 2010. The author is a linguist, humanitarian, missionary priest, and human rights worker. These passions have connected him to historical forces of the last 60 years.
