Few people understand the process parents go through when plans of a "normal" child's birth go in an unexpected direction. This short story is my way of telling expectant parents of Down Syndrome children that it is ok to be afraid. Your journey may begin with confusion and fear of the unknown, but soon you will truly know how unfounded those feelings were. My fourth child Isaac is my surprise and my blessing. Special kids bring joy and happiness to families that can only be understood by those experiencing it. Maybe someday I will pen our experiences, but this story is how I felt in the beginning.
