This is a two part book. Part One tells the story of the Japanese Defenders of Iwo Jima. It tells of the starvation and sacrifice endured by the Japanese defenders. Part Two is the author's personal reflections of the country to country negotiations to return the island to Japan after twenty-two of American occupation.
