Representative of most European-Americans who chose to live along the western edge first of British Colonial America and then of the new United States, James Jarvis (bef. 1746Ðaft. 1790) initially resided in the Forks of the James before moving to the Holston River basin (present-day Washington County, Virginia). He eventually settled on good agricultural land south of the Nolichucky River (now Greene County, Tennessee). James Jarvis was a resident of the self-proclaimed State of Franklin throughout its governmentÕs brief existence. This short work looks at James JarvisÕs life by considering his family, friends, and associates within the context of historical events.
