This second of a two-volume work focuses on descendants of the Highland Clan MacRae in the southeastern United States beginning with families settling in the Cape Fear and Pee Dee river valleys in North and South Carolina. Additional Virginia lines are noted. It continues various branches in GA, AL, TN, MS, FL, LA, AR, and TX. For many lineages, it suggests possible origins in Scotland and inter-relationships among families. It is primarily concerned with distinguishing families and individuals from one another and matching them to record chronologies up to the mid- to late 19th century. Many of the enslaved are mentioned. Illustrated with maps, photos, and genealogical charts. The companion, Volume I, is focused on two inter-related families of Montgomery and Cumberland counties in NC--the author's kinship group. Larry W. Cates served as Clan Genealogist of Clan MacRae Society of North America for over a decade. He has researched this book for 25 years and is a family history librarian in High Point, NC.
