This book documents the sixth annual Laskey Award, a weekend ÒDesign ChallengeÓ for sophomore students in the art and architecture programs at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. Mehrdad Hadighi, founder and principal of Studio for Architecture and head of the Department of Architecture at Pennsylvania State University, was invited to design and administer the Challenge. He asked students to work in teams over one weekend, beginning by slicing a coolant reservoir found in cars into two non symmetrical parts. From these parts they were to create a three dimensional sculpture capturing the reservoirÕs Òplastic momentsÓ, as well as a two-dimensional collage documenting its linear and planar geometric qualities.
