Beginning in 1943, and continuing until the mid-1960s, Charley Jones and his staff published LAUGH BOOK under the Jayhawk Press live. Many of the jokes and cartoons were submitted by readers, for a very modest remuneration, giving rise to the boast that the 'zine represented the current humor in America Ð and the evolution of styles form early to late editions backs up this claim. At one point circulation reached over 50,000 copies, with shared reading among military bases and elsewhere suggesting an even greater readership. Although the last copy sold a couple generations ago, good humor never goes out of style!
