Recently I had acquired a stack of letters from my grandmother. The letters were written by my grandfather, ÒBobÓ during his time in the Navy just following World War II. He had written them to his parents to let them know what life was like while he was in the service. The year is 1946, where he is about to start his two year term in the United States Navy. The letters show a point in his life where he is discovering the world and the responsibility of turning 18 and being on his own. With the promise of writing when he can and not to go down the wrong path of drinking and smoking, the life of ÒBobÓ in the Navy is a step back in time after the war is over. This book is a collection of those letters and pictures to accompany what he wrote to his parents and sister. I decided to put his letters into a book to preserve a special time in my grandfatherÕs time in the service as a reminder and to cherish the man that we have come to love
