Larry and Phyllis marry in 1941 and anticipate a bright future together, that is abruptly interrupted with the announcement of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Larry volunteers as a Navy officer and the young couple face many trials as they criss-cross the US for many training assignments, and then are separated as Larry ships out to Oahu to become part of the Joint Intelligence Committee of the Pacific. They each face a personal crisis on the eve of the Battle of the Philippine Sea.
