Joyce died in 1979. She was cremated and instructed that no traditional memorial marker of her life should be left. However her children and her grandchildren wanted something by which to remember her and something to be handed down to future generations of her family who would never know her. As a writer herself she would hardly have objected to this manner of remembrance. Before her death she said that she felt she would always be a part of the natural world, the real world as she saw it, but once there was no longer living memory there would be no one to remember those words and to know who she was or what she was. One of her novels, Green Peace, was published in 2014, as her memorial to literature. This book is her memorial to life.
