Based around a handwritten 1850 memoir, this short work is intended to summarize what is known from the records of the lives of the Lords Hatton, the first two of whom were Governors of Guernsey. The compiler has included a verbatim copy of the original copperplate manuscript, with his own notes, pen pictures of the first two Lords Hatton, notes on Castle Cornet, an ancient poem about Hatton in Cheshire which also mentions the first Lord Hatton (and Sir Christopher Hatton, Lord Chancellor to Queen Elizabeth I) in glowing terms, and a select bibliography. The first and last pages of the original manuscript appear as illustrations.
