The philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein said:
ÒIf a lion could talk, we could not understand him.Ó
As an entirely different species, we donÕt understand the point-of-view of the lion. We canÕt know its value system, or its culture or even the humor of a lion. I wondered if this translated to pets.
We talk to our pets, play with them, welcome them into our homes and sometimes even dress them up. We treat them like people. We treat them like family. We can only assume we know something about them, but it will always be from a human point of view.
Holstein is an attempt to try to show the two worlds - one cat world and one human world - running parallel but sometimes very apart.
The cats in the strip are based on real rescue cats from various shelters. Each has found a home through adoption. Hopefully this cartoon can also show the joy, humor and companionship a stray cat or any stray/ rescue animal can bring, if given a chance.
