Born the youngest of over a dozen children into a strong Catholic family on the bustling north side of Saint Louis city in 1928, Norbert Komorowski grew up during the heart of the Great Depression. Here he tells the story of how he survived childhood without indoor plumbing, elementary school without video games, and high school without a car. He was the product of a different time, a simpler time, maybe a better time. There's laughter and heartbreak here, but more importantly, there's history. The world of his youth and young adulthood is long gone, but his words can conjure the images for us, so we can retrace Ð at least in our imaginations - his steps with him and experience the memories of what it once was like to ride a streetcar or run to the outhouse in the snow.
