A four-month-old horse is separated from her mother. In the middle of the night, thousands of miles away in Connecticut, Locket the burro hears a tiny voice.
ÒI want my mommy,Ó she hears over and over again.
ÒThereÕs a mommy here who will take care of you,Ó Locket tells her.
Weeks later, the foal, Beatrice, arrives at LocketÕs Meadow, sullen and angry. Although rescued from death in a slaughterhouse, all she can think about is how much she misses her mother and CanadaÕs green meadows.
David and Kathleen, the farm owners, try to help her but she grows angrier every day.
ÒShe doesnÕt look like my mommy,Ó Beatrice cries to Locket when the burro tells her Kathleen will be her new mother.
ÒBut if you give her a chance . . .,Ó Locket says.
ÒI would give her a chance,Ó says another, deeper voice. ÒIf only I could find my way there, I would give her a chance.Ó
