Alec Saunders is a happily married man who works in the basement for Wilkins and Co. Together with his hapless assistant Rathbone, he is responsible for archiving eight thousand files. When he develops an unhealthy interest for gorgeous Madeleine, who works on the third floor, things start to go wrong. He ÔborrowsÕ a highly confidential file on her behalf, which triggers a series of calamities that ultimately leads to tragedy. In exposing the absurdities of corporate life, Alec appears to have lost it but he is not beaten just yet.
