Macon County was formed in 1828 from Haywood County. Haywood was formed in 1808 from Buncombe County, which was formed in 1791 from parts of Burke and Rutherford counties.
NOTE: CRX records is a designation by the N.C. State Archives which means records received from some other source Ð other than the county courthouse. These records are segregated from the other records; of the county file-catalog (index cards for researching county specific records at the archives).
This author already transcribed the Macon County Road records Ð as identified in the normal county index (contained in 2-volumes covering 1828-1905). However, the author, unaware of the CRX designation Ð has since located ALL CRX records for the state, and found Macon Co. has the largest collection of all. There are 4-boxes of CRX road records. This book contains the oldest Ð first box Ð as well as the ONLY folder (from Box-4) of Bridge records for the entire county collection (both regular and CRX).
