Spring is a celebrated event across northern Michigan, especially after a seasonally harsh winter. It is a period when the snow slowly melts away, maple trees are tapped for syrup, trout season opens and turkey hunting begins.
It is during this time, when an almost sacred tradition of hunting for morel mushrooms begins.
A morel is an edible mushroom that is commonly found growing in northern Michigan. People come from all parts of Michigan and surrounding states in hopes of finding morel mushrooms. But, this isnÕt a story focused entirely on the tradition of finding morel mushrooms, how to cook a mushroom, or even why mushrooms grow.
