I was motivated to write the music for\u003cbr\u003e\nthree reasons. First, Nigerian art music composers have written some interesting pieces for\u003cbr\u003e\npiano; however, these pieces are far too advanced to arouse the interest in children and adult\u003cbr\u003e\npianists. Thus, I decided to compose simpler pieces in an African style to introduce children and\u003cbr\u003e\nadults to playing these complex works. Second, Memoirs of Childhood represents my\u003cbr\u003e\narticulation of some of the theories on African pianism. By African pianism we mean an African\u003cbr\u003e\npiano style created by modern African composers.
