My grandmother, Nelly Lovewell, was a motorcycle despatch rider in the First World War. One day she discovered a soldier trapped in No-Man's Land. Nelly and the soldier exchanged poems by carrier pigeon, and eventually Nelly rescued him. the soldier eventually became my grandfather.
