As the MENA regionÕs population continues to grow and climate change will affect weather and precipitation patterns, the MENA region may experience even more water shortage in the near future.\u003cbr\u003e\nThe study explores for the 21 MENA countries how water demand, supply and shortage will change over the coming 40 years. The study explores also alternatives to overcome the projected water shortages.\u003cbr\u003e\nResults indicate that unmet demand for the entire MENA region, expressed as percentage of total demand, will increase from 16% currently to 51% in 2040-2050. Various adaptation strategies were explored resulting in the conclusion that costs to overcome water shortage in 2040-2050 will be about US$ 100 billion every year.
