Midlana takes the logical next step in the evolution of the traditional "Locost" replica by incorporating a front-wheel drive (FWD) drivetrain and mounting it mid-engine, while retaining the original's retro styling. A mid-engine configuration provides better acceleration, better braking, and better cornering than its front-engine equivalent. FWD drivetrains are now extremely common, with more choices, wide availability, and a larger aftermarket than front-mounted rear-drive drivetrains. Because many builders are already familiar with FWD drivetrains; Midlana opens the door to using drivetrains that builders already understand. Midlana, the book, contains full plans including: wheel and tire choices, drivetrain selection, options, seats, shocks and springs, construction techniques, chassis and suspension fabrication, cowl and dash layout, electrical, fuel, and coolant system construction, shifter fabrication, windscreen mounting, parts and sources, final assembly, and registration.
