In 1966-75, S.I. Fishgal, as a leading designer for the Soviet Communications Corps, among his 500 Soviet patent applications, made his military cable layer-extractor manufactured 25 years. No known ones extracted cable. His machine was driverless to track along and keep the digger near the buried cable. Vibration digging he invented too.
