A compilation of student works that venture into the personal, the painful, the prideful, and the fearful.
Students at Heartland Alternative School drafted poems that express their protests, address injustices around each of us, highlight people who have affected them deeply, illustrate their beliefs, and depict a variety of unbridled ideas in the open forum. Moreover, they created stories where the theme was "Trapped" and students crafted flash fiction that deposits characters in moments of terror, both physically and emotionally, while also exploring the complexities of the internal self and the struggles therewith.
Creative, inspiring, and at times aggressively honest. Students rip off the veneer and show their true lives, their true opinions, and their true successes and disappointments. This collection will certainly have you asking the questions: "What will happen next? What could happen next? Do I really want to know? And, If I know too much, what will happen?"
