In the ten years that Eve Estrella-Sebastian lived in a LadiesÕ Boarding House, she met many women from all over the country. In the dormitory, they spoke different languages, lived their regional, idiosyncratic ways, and carried their hopes for a future in the city. In the everyday of dormitory life, their histories intertwined but after they moved on, their stories ended.
Eve could not leave these womenÕs stories unfinished, and imagined their endings in writing, some of which won the prestigious Palanca Award for Literature. Many became immigrants to America, where they sought and found the fulfillment of their dreams, and the ending of their stories that began in a dormitory in the Philippines.
