Second volume of an exploration of Southern Africa further from the euphoria of newly independent East Africa and into the battle zone itself, the so-called Òborder of Black versus White Africa.Ó The trips south are largely research journeys now, designed to prepare for writing assignments that deal with international relations within southern Africa, often across the racial divide. There follows a research interest in the South African Defense Forces, its deployments in the region, and especially the White state's use of Black soldiers and police to defend the apartheid regime. There are also dozens of op-ed pieces written for newspapers and magazines in Africa and the United States.
