The Daniel Hill family and the Daniel Koffman family were among the earliest settlers in the area north of Purdy which was the first county seat of McNairy County, Tennessee. This area became known as the Hill settlement and was the largest in the county at that time. It was composed of Daniel Hill, Sr., his eight sons and their families, Isaac Koffman, Thomas Griffin, old Ben Walker, William Beatty, Samuel Houston, the Wilson and Rankin families, all came to the county in 1828, and settled near Purdy. The Hills and Koffmans migrated from eastern Tennessee. These pioneers formed a neighborhood of excellent citizens. There is much reliable information about the Hill and Koffman families available. There are many Hill and Koffman descendants remaining in the area, and many who settled further west.
