My Memoir, by Charlene Madsen Horsley. I am a fifth generation ÒMormonÓ with a heritage of committed progenitors who responded positively to the message of the Restoration. My father had a library of childrenÕs stories from the Bible, and I loved reading about the patriarchs and the prophets. I attended Primary and Sunday School, M.I.A. and Seminary, where I learned the principles and doctrines of the Church. I was a sober child and reflected on them. At the early age of twelve, I sought and received my patriarchal blessing and was particularly proud of my lineage through Joseph and his son, Ephraim. My patriarchal blessing stated that I was a daughter whom God delighted to own and bless because of my faithfulness in my premortal home. Whatever qualities of character I have, I owe to the Church. I am literally a product of the Church. I found it impossible to separate romantic love from its culmination in the new and everlasting covenant of marriage. To me, the two were inseparable. I know that L.D.S. temples have the fulness of the Melchizedek Priesthood, the sealing power of which unites families for eternity. The Holy Ghost has testified of these things to me, and a lifetime of study has fortified and confirmed them.
