Delvis Fern‡ndez Levy was born and raised in Santa Clara, Cuba, where he managed to reach a bachelor degree beyond high school, despite the turmoil and rebellion around him. His upbringings were filled by a loving family. He graduated with honors from Westminster College, found a loving wife, and moved on for a masterÕs degree at the University of Miami. His first full time job was at the University of the Pacific in Stockton.

He served as faculty advisor to the first Chicano Student Union and developed programs for the expansion of educational opportunities for students at Chabot College as well as labored doing mathematics research to receive a PhD degree from the University of California at Berkeley.

When his beloved sister passed away unexpectedly in Cuba, along with many other forces that called him to work for change, he founded the Cuban American Alliance Education Fund, Inc. (CAAEF).

He led delegations to meet with government officials and spoke at forums on U.S.-Cuba policy with editorials and opinion letters in many major newspapers, as well as publishing La Alborada, Spanish-English newsletter. He participated in radio and TV interviews and was featured in several documentary films about U.S.-Cuban affairs. He has been a speaker at press conferences in Congress, the National Press Club, and given lectures at various colleges and universities, from UCLA to Fordham University, and served on the boards of many organizations.

With the completion of this life story and advocacy work, he also hopes that people will recognize that many of yesterdayÕs challenges remain the same today and with awareness of injustice goodness will flow and bring hope to building a better world for our Gran Familia.
