Deanwood is one of Washington DCÕs oldest African American neighborhoods. It is also our neighborhood. By using a DIY giant Polaroid frame we scoured our neighborhood documenting those special individuals who serve our community in the areas of Community Service, Arts, Education and Industry. In 2013 we won an Awesome Foundation Grant to complete the project. Each of the residents were photographed in a specific location in Deanwood up to their choosing. As our neighborhood continues to grow in many ways we hope our project continues community building, promotes the creative spirit and positive aspects of our historical and unique community.
