The Thursday Night Reading Series of the Graduate Program in Creative Writing at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette features two students in our MA or PhD program community who read their work each week. During TNRS we hold an open mic series called Napkin Stories in which members of the audience are given the opportunity to write short pieces on bar napkins we provide and read them. A secret judge from the audience selects a winner, who receives a trophy and a prize. Throughout the year, we have been collecting napkin stories and compiling them in the hopes of creating a year-end anthology to give to our contributors, our devoted audience, and the larger creative community both at our university and in the community as a whole as a show of thanks for their participation in the written and spoken arts and their faithful support of our reading series.
