Nong PlaiÕs parents could not give him the love that he wanted so he left home to go on a journey to find someone who will love him. On the way, Nong Plai comes across a tiger spirit. This tiger spirit gives Nong Plai what he wants and, in return, Nong Plai slowly turns into a spirit himself. A young woman from the nearby village comes across Nong Plai and falls in love with him. Nong Plai decides to return home with her and their newborn son in hopes to reunite with his parents.

About Hmong Folktales:
Folktales are told orally from memory and have reoccurring or common themes. These include love, marriage, spirits, tragedies, repetition and humanizing animals. The setting in these stories mimics everyday life in Laos. There are many forms used to tell these stories, such as dialogue, poetry and singing. One story can include more than one of these forms. Hmong folktales are told from one generation to the next. Aside from bedtime entertainment, each folktale has a moral and lesson.
