These drawings are excerpts from the acclaimed 2006 series that began artist Jenifer K Wofford's ongoing "Nurse" project. Originally addressing Filipina nurses and their immigration narratives, the project has expanded into other themes, as well.
Executed on simple green paper reminiscent of a clinic or hospital, Wofford's Filipina nurses are cleanly illustrated in black ink with their uniforms heightened in white. Suspended in vague, liminal spaces, the nurses interact with a doughy, goo-like substance that implies both flesh and border space.
