Olde School Wizardry: The Nine Ancient Runes of Magic is a rules-light table-top roleplaying game that focuses on the antics and exploits of neophyte wizards as they try to make their way in a world that is harsh and uncaring. With a spellcasting system that emphasizes innovation and cooperation (along with a hearty dose of unpredictability) players can carefully tailor every spell their characters cast to the situation at hand.
Olde School Wizardry seeks to explore a style of problem-solving by opening up for players the ability to tinker with the attributes of any given spell, allowing them to tailor details of quantity, duration, and effect, while simultaneously creating limitations by requiring each wizard to specialize in certain Sciences. So perhaps the caster has the freedom to design Òon-the-flyÓ a ranged, offensive spell that targets enemies around corners, but must deal with the requirement that his missile has to be composed of cheese.
The book contains the complete game, and it requires no additional supplements to play.
