The UCLA Pacific Basin Law Journal is the second oldest journal at UCLA School of Law and focuses on a diverse range of legal and policy issues in the Pacific Rim, looking to both the Asia-Pacific and the Americas. Volume 31:1 features three articles, each covering a pertinent issue. Tin Muk Daisy CheungÕs piece, ÒGoing Barefoot in the Middle Kingdom,Ó explores the realities of legal practice by ChinaÕs non-licensed (weiquan) lawyers. In ÒA Failure to Consider,Ó David Kocan details the pitfalls that U.S. legislators face when overlooking international trade obligations. In the third article, ÒCan Islam and ÔIslamizationÕ be a Force for Refugee Rights in Malaysia,Ó Matthew Seet discusses how principles of Islam might encourage more immigrant-friendly laws in Malaysia and strategies for achieving this objective.
