The history of Parchmans in America began with the German immigrant Nicholas Parchman as a soldier in Colonel George Washington's militia in the French and Indian War in 1758. The book is arranged as a family tree of Nicholas' descendants with notes and descriptions for many of the family members. The family started in Virginia, then moved to Pennsylvania as three presumed sons were pioneers across the wilderness from Pennsylvania into Tennessee, Mississippi, and Texas. One joined the Virginia Line in the Revolution and one had a grandson to die as the youngest defender (15) of The Alamo.
