Paul Sharits was a pioneering figure in experimental film, always interested in investigating the physical properties of celluloid and its related mechanical hardware: the projector, film reel, and the sound components. With a career that began in the 1960s, Sharits is celebrated as one of the seminal figures of American avant-garde film making as well as drawing & painting in relation to the film medium. This full color exhibition catalog chronicles a selection of paintings and drawings shown in a rare Los Angeles exhibition in 1981 including text notes by the artist, and archival news and reviews of the day.
