This volume has three purposes and themes. As reflected in the title, the first is to present and to explore the research of the C-SAP funded project, Pedagogies of Teaching ÔRaceÕ, carried out by Susie Jacobs, John Gabriel, Shirin Housee and Sami Ramadani. This constitutes the largest and most thorough study to date of teaching/curriculum provision in and experiences of teaching ÔraceÕ and ethnicity in UK social science higher education. The second is the exploration of little-discussed interactional issues, including conflicts arising within teaching these and related subjects in university settings. Thirdly, this volume includes four continental European contributions; together these begin the important work of ÔmappingÕ race/ethnicity provisions within universities in European settings.
