Those Americans born between ÒThe Great WarÓ and ÒThe Great DepressionÓ have received well-deserved accolades as ÒThe Greatest Generation.Ó Having experienced neither, I have no idea which is more dauntingÑestablishing a beachhead against superbly trained, well-fortified enemy forces prepared to die for their emperor or facing alone in dawnÕs early light an unbroken field of prairie in the panhandle of Oklahoma, armed with nothing but a one-foot sod plow and a team of horses. As one who has reaped the spoils of otherÕs tireless efforts, I think it is reasonable to assume that each generation is inexorably linked to the preceding one. Thus, I submit that pioneers such as my Grandpa through their actions, not words, sowed the seeds of success that drove America to save the world a generation later. -R. Mack Carlisle
