Jane is a nice, well-educated girl from Atlanta. When her Dad gets a job doing terraforming on B-3, she says goodbye to Earth. She makes sure to lose her virginity before she leaves, though, because you never know--not everyone who boards the Ship survives. Sometimes the Ship
"eats" passengers. Or makes them crew--it's a real risk. So when she tells her parents she's no longer a virgin, she says, "Don't you think I should?" And she is indeed taken by the Ship. On the plus side, she meets a nice young man from Paradise (which is a real dump). His name's Rig. His right hand is quite a bit larger than his left hand, and one of his eyes sees infra-red.
